Food and Gaining: weight /muscle?

I just made the most bangin' bullet proof diet/paleo dinner. Steak and Hollandaise sauce! It was stupid simple too :) I couldn't find what I wanted recipe wise so I did some mixing and matching to make what I needed. Aside from an awesome dinner I had a pretty awesome breakfast of "Taco" eggs, that I threw together, and a burger wrapped in bacon for lunch. Who says dieting isn't awesome? Everything was organic and grassfed too!

I know I just started a week ago but I have been in the habit of weighing myself alot. (Bad, I know!) I wound up gaining back some of the original weight that I had lost going to the gym pre-crossfit. I was bummed but reassured that it was probably just muscle mass. It a moment of frustration I ordered a scale that measures hydration, body fat as well as weight. I also ordered a tape measure. So heres to hoping! I also ordered some convenient snacks for on the go courtesy of Amazon, grass fed organic beef jerky! I'm super stoked to try that out. It's really hard to work at a school where everyone has a birthday all the time and resist cupcakes. I've gained some will power recently. It's nice because I certainly need it.

I'm up to my ears in homework, so this weekend I will be posting pictures of some yummy food and recipes to pair with them. Yay weekends!

Goals

Since I am new to CrossFit there are a lot of cool and intimidating thing I have seen other members do. Obviously losing weight is one of my main goals but its good to have some others! Here is a list of some of my personal goals that have nothing to do with losing weight!  In no specific order:

-Learn to do a handstand so I can eventually maybe attempt a handstand push up!

- Be able to do a non-modified Burpee

-Graduate down from 2 bands for Pull ups to just one! (And hopefully none at some point) right now I am using BOTH the green and the blue bands to help me.

-To be able to dismount myself out of the Pull up bands. (Last time my Coach tried to help me I literally was an inch from kicking him in the face...whoops!)

-To be able to do 3 non-modified 'man' push ups!

I think those are enough goals for now, let's see how I do! I didn't do deadlines for them because I figured I'd just push myself as much as I can :)

Dieting/ Lifestyle changes

For the most part this organic/grass fed Bullet Proof Diet is new to me. I have bought what I can find so far. I also discovered this great place in Sag Harbor that is organic and has grass fed stuff as well as vegan/vegetarian. It's not too pricey either! (http://www.provisionsnaturalfoods.com/)

I picked up some  grass fed meat and ghee. (which is clarified organic butter!)

(Excuse my name on the packaging, I have some roommates that will eat ANYTHING in the fridge)

I also picked up some grass fed organic free range chicken at the deli down the street!

Never in my life did I think I would become one of 'those' people. You know the ones who "only" eat organic-grass-fed-free-range . If I can choose what I eat I have decided that I will choose what the best, when I can afford it that is! However at the same time I am not opposed to eating straight up any meat if its all available. So I guess I am not truly one of 'those' people ;) I do not think I am better than anyone else, so perhaps I never will be.

I am trying to make meals ahead of time to save energy in the morning and so I can make better choices when I am starving. Here is tomorrows breakfast, lunch and snack that I shortly impatiently ate after taking this photo. I am no longer sure what I will be replacing my grapefruit snack with :( maybe some carrots.

3 Hardboiled eggs and some cucumber/raw green bean salad with balsamic glazed chicken to add on to it.
I figured out this fun nifty trick to save space too!

Ta Dah!!!!! Now nothing will get soggy :) Nifty, right?

Food!

So far I have been playing trial and error with The Bullet Proof Diet in regards to things I can enjoy eating. My lunch the other day was truly on point and very 'Bullet Proof' which makes it very awesome and very delicious!

Can you guess what it was?

It was fresh local Blue Point Oysters courtesy of Citerella and they were quickly super annihilated in mere minutes :)

Nothing makes me happier than being able to eat well and most of what I want!

I stocked up on some essentials the other day at the outlet as well. (Buy 4, get 1 free!)

They were sold out of the 99 Percent :(

Before Photos

I wanted to share with my "beginning" photos, these were taken after my first week completing Crossfit (http://www.crossfit.com) in addition to starting The Bullet Proof Diet. (http://www.bulletproofexec.com/category/bulletproofdiet/)

At this point in time I don't feel comfortable showing my face. I also hope noone I know is looking at this as well.

Heres to hoping this disappears quicker then it was packed on :-(

"CrossFucked"

The first time I walked into my Crossfit box I was completely overwhelmed and intimidated. The first time I started my first Work out Of the Day (WOD) this feeling washed over me, a feeling that I like to lovingly refer to as "CrossFucked." Theres nothing worse than thinking to yourself "What the F- was I even thinking when I signed up? Did I really think that I could actually do this?"It's even better when you're halfway through a workout. But once its over and you're lying in a heap on the floor it feels good. Almost like a high of some sorts. I know because its the only thing that keeps me going back. I hate it so good.
Last Thursday I did my first introductory course, Friday morning I tried to go to the 6am class but it was snowing pretty bad and it was cancelled. The weekend was also pretty crappy due to the weather, and then Monday everything was closed as well due to MORE snow, Tuesday was my first real day.
 I also went Wednesday.

(Here is my Wed. WOD)

Thursday I went twice in one day. I did the exact same work out, only one was before work at 6am and the other was at 3:30 after work. The second time I completed the work out I beat my first time by 5 minutes (!!!!!!!!) :)

*Note because I am new my workouts are scaled down and modified, here is an example of a scaling down of "Annie" that I did twice on Thursday.

Friday I went and learned how to deadlift!! I was pretty excited about that and NEVER in a million years thought it would be something I could do. I started with 55# 10x :)

I celebrated by having some organic coconut juice/milk from my local organic store. (That I mention in a later post!)

Cheers!!

Saturday stayed in bed, and Sunday morning I unwillingly dragged myself out of bed for my first Partner WOD.

My first Partner WOD was my most miserable experience at Crossfit thus far, because I am so new, alot of people at my Crossfit gym (my box) do not know who I am and I am also pretty positive they do not want to be stuck working out with me. I tried to talk my coach into letting me do this alone so I did not have to drag anyone down and make them pick up my slack but I wasn't allowed to. Instead I was stuck working with someone who pretty much looked exactly like Zack Galifianakis.

Literally almost. In a hat as well. He also was from outside the U.S. and had a very thick accent. He ALSO, through our entire workout, read the WOD wrong and made us do 50 of everything EACH instead of splitting it. Even when I tried to tell him otherwise!  For a newbie it was a little rough. I was definitely cranky after that workout :) but we made through most of it...

I had alot of questions. Like does working out twice in one day mean that I am not working out hard enough? Thankfully I have a great Bestie who has drank the CrossFit Kool-aid as well, so I usually harass her with my questions. I quickly turned into a bit of a glutton for punishment with Crossfit. In addition I started the Bullet Proof Diet, I was originally just eating better and counting calories but I decided to stop counting and drop carbs, diary and grains completely (Or rather as best as I could) in addition I started trying to eat only organic/grassfed.

In addition to updating things I have learned and my hopeful progress I also plan on blogging some recipes and brands of food etc that I am currently checking out. If you have any suggestions or advice please leave me a comment!!

The start of a journey..

I graduated high school in 2006 at the whopping height of 5'3, weighing 97lbs. I was also a Varsity Lacrosse and Softball player. A few years later and I am absolutely none of those things anymore, aside from a high school graduate. I am now a 25 year old women, still 5'3, but a tad "thicker" at around 180lbs depending on the day. Sometimes I'm 170! ;) My heaviest was 195, I vowed to myself that if I ever reached 200 I would take a short walk off a long pier. Last month I joined a regular gym. I was going 2x a day typically, eating better and walking on my lunch break at work. I went from 195 to 180, but to be honest I had no clue what I was doing at the gym. I just tackled the elliptical pre-cor machine thing and did the occasional "old lady" toning class. I felt like I was doomed to count calories, be an incompetent gym goer and be unhappy forever. My gym trial was up not to mention I was tired of catching a glimpse in the mirror and wanting to cry because of my chinzzz. But in a couple of days something kind of...changed for me. Tuesday I joined Crossfit. I had a short introductory class and figured what could hurt if I forked over the absurd amount of money (that is cheaper than just hiring a Personal Trainer, in the Hamptons no less!) The bottom line was I wanted results, I wanted to feel accomplished, I wanted more than a jog on the old Treadmill and to feel like I actually knew what I was doing.

This is my blog dedicated to fighting the fat, navigating crossfit as a no0b, and to help me spread the knowledge that I accrue along the way for other people that are possibly just starting out their journey too. This is also to show that not every single person at Crossfit is ripped. I am a completely normal slightly over-weight American woman trying not to make an ass out of myself while exploring a hopefully happier, healthier lifestyle.
